IP protection via blockchain
Karatbars International will map more and more processes via blockchain
China intends to test a digital prototype based on blockchain technology in the near future, which can be used to protect intellectual property such as patents from theft. A newly developed blockchain platform is designed to protect Chinese innovation from theft: Often it is impossible to see who the originator of innovations is. Patents are filed too late or not at all. In addition, patent law is not uniformly regulated globally.
The problem can be solved with a blockchain. The cryptographic security of distributed ledger technology (DLT) always includes a time stamp. With this time stamp, sensitive data such as patents for source code can be stored on the blockchain and assigned to the originator without doubt via digital fingerprint.
The key to the protection of trade secrets lies in the judicial practice of fulfilling the legal burden of proof to establish intellectual property. With the blockchain, whose entries cannot be manipulated.
The idea of using DLT to protect trade secrets is not new. The responsible organization, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), already pointed out these possibilities in a workshop last July.
Just like China, WIPO also sees great potential in blockchain technology for the automation of intellectual property identification processes. The biggest advantages over traditional processes are lower costs (by eliminating middlemen) and increased reliability, according to the organization.
Problems are currently being caused by the standardization of processes. After all, in addition to the Chinese solution, there are many other projects that cannot necessarily be linked together.
Karatbars International also places a special emphasis on the Blockchain. The company has developed the first mobile phone based on blockchain technology and is currently researching new possibilities in this area. CEO Harald Seiz: "We have a specialized department where the possibilities of blockchain are being researched. Numerous business areas and processes at Karatbars International can be mapped via the block chain in the medium and long term".
